Argumentative Essay

"Master Harold"…. and the boys, by Athol Fugard informs the reader of the great conflict between different racial groups in South Africa at this time. Fugard grew up in the middle of this conflict which influenced him in writing this book. Throughout the book important relationships are formed and racial comments are made, which all contribute to the fact that this book is an important book for secondary school students to study.

One of the central themes that is discussed in "Master Harold"…. and the boys are the relationships between each character. Throughout the book Willie develops a strong relationship with Sam because Willie is also black and about the same age as Sam. However this kind of relationship is not expressed between Hally (a white boy) and Sam. Hally is arrogant and clearly superior to Sam even though Sam is old enough to be Hally's father. This kind of behavior was evident in Fugard's lifetime in South Africa. Hally causes tension when he says "Sam that should be easy enough for you," clearly shows how Hally intimidates Sam. In the book Hally displays a mixed relationship to his father. Hally goes from anxious to know how he is when he says "No Sam. They can't be discharging him," to eventually not caring about his father at all when he says "Life is just a plain bloody mess, that's all. And people are fools." Relationships can also be found in the movie "The Power Of One" where PK (a white boy) has a strong relationship with an older black man which is similar to the relationship shared by Hally and Sam. Even though both black men are older than there white friends, they have to call them either "Sir" or in Hally's case, "Master Harold." These examples demonstrate the relationships that were formed during Fugard's lifetime in South Africa.

Another aspect that was discussed in the book and was evident in South Africa, was racism. Racism is displayed in the title. The words "Master Harold," imply that the inverted commas suggest the status be not deserved or appropriate. The line, ….and the boys, in lower case shows the difference in status compared to "Master Harold," which is in upper case. Also, tension is made when Hally commands Sam to call him "Master Harold" or Sam might lose his job as a servant. Another example of racial tension is when Sam was asked to leave the area because it was a "whites only bench." This informs the reader of how life was like in South Africa during Fugard's lifetime. Racist comments are again made by Hally when he says "Don't try to be clever, Sam. It doesn't suit you," shows the prejudice that was experienced in South Africa. Another racist incident found in the book is when Hally had to ask permission for Sam to go in and get his father. Hally and his father would also joke about "Niggers" and Hally would often make things worse by telling Sam these jokes. Racial tensions are also evident in "The Power Of One," when PK would get beaten up because he was English decent and most of the other boys were Dutch background. Racism is a very important feature for discussion and is present in both "Master Harold"…. and the boys and Fugard's life in South Africa. Write my Essay on Argumentative essay cheap

Giving Up and or Quitting as the Case May Be

Honest, I tried to have a quiet time each morning in Alabama. It was rigorous self-discipline that did it, not enthusiam or joy or meeting a Person each day. I was praying through Peter Lords 5 Plan - a nice prayer notebook. God did not answer my prayers in the affirmative, but it was a nice way to pray. We had a baby though, and that took care of the spare time for prayer in the AM. She was a sweetie. Two more came along. Sweeties, all.

We tried Matts format for friendship evangelism in Alabama. Nothing. This did not work for us. Why, God? I also found the Deeper Life stuff was not working for me like it was for those who wrote the books.

I quit expecting God to move. I got down to parenting and the job and marriage responsibilities. We still went to church a lot. Three times a week, in fact. I taught Sunday School to adults for years and years (still do). It was fairly rewarding, but not what I wanted in a relationship with God. It did not match what I could find in the Bible. One thing, though. About age 0, I quit being so bashful.

I did make a serious personal commitment to not sell out my wife and kids to pursue personal career goals. (Thank you, James Dobson.)

Sometimes a Light Surprises . .

In 1, Peter Lord came to Florence, Alabama. I made it a point to go hear him. He was much calmer than 15 years before. This time, I got two sentences. You can hear from God. The greatest enemy to hearing God is hurry.

For weeks it seemed like God was immediately present whenever I was outdoors. That was nice and warm. I had not expected Him to move after so long.

The mens group, Promisekeepers/Men of Integrity, came to the area. I went to some meetings. I was challenged to cross racial barriers.

Observation Paper

The first person I observed was at the park. Actually it was two people. It seemed to be a young couple and they had a child. They looked to be about 1 or 0. My first impression is that here we have two people who messed up in life, had a child, and are starting their life in debt. The more I watched them I felt kind of angry. Why wasn't one of them working at least, but then I thought that maybe they were taking a break from this world and getting away together as a family for just a brief moment so they could relax a remember what life is all about. As they walked to their car I saw them laughing and having a good time. Then the father put the baby in the back set and then kissed the mother and pulled her close. This made me feel warm inside and lets me know that there are always people trying to make the best out of a bad situation.

The next person I observed was my neighbor. This man has a wife with two of her own kids, but they have no kids together. I see him everyday and when I do see him he looks so stressed and confused with slight frustration mixed in all that. I fell that sometimes he wonders if he make the right decision of taking on the responsibility of raisin children that re not his own. You can tell he struggles to make a good living because his truck is starting to look a little worn out and the house is which I fairly new is looking a little run down and could use a little care and attention. His yard I not well kept either. He lets I grow about a foot and a half tall and then tries to mow it with a little riding lawnmower which takes him all day to do. Then he has huge piles of grass, which he does not bother to rake up. Now I am not sure if is just a procrastinator or if maybe life is really getting to him and he is just a little depressed. Either way he is still a great guy and I know he tries his hardest to win the battles of his everyday life.

My next unknowingly victim is just a young man in the TJC parking lot. He is well dressed and drives a brand new truck with many expensive modifications. I get mixed emotions towards people like this. I am not sure if he is trying to impress everyone he meets or maybe he just really enjoys fixing up vehicles. For the most part I have a feeling it is for attention. You can tell that by the way he walks that he is just begging for attention. He walks with his chest out and shoulders back; it kind of looks as though he is ready to fight the world to prove worthiness. Perhaps he does not get enough attention at home or maybe he gets too much attention that just simply leaves him always begging for more. I noticed that when he got in his truck he looked around to see if he could find a group of people standing somewhere. He found some people and rolled down his windows and turned his music up al loud as it would got and drove by them as slow as his truck could go to ensure that everyone noticed him. This further let me know what kind of person he is. I figure he has low self-image and will do anything to get himself noticed by others. In my opinion that is a sad way to live your life.

Write your observation paper research paper

This fourth person is a girl 8in the mall parking lot. I thought that this would be a good place to find someone interesting to observe and man was I right. This girl is about twenty or so and could be the poster girl for little Miss Barbie. She could not seem more stuck up if her life depended on it. I see her and pray that I do not have a daughter like her. Let me brake it down for you, she was in a new corvette, that had a sticker on it that said princess and the license plate said brat. She had a walk about her that just made you want to go up and ask her if those pants she has on are tight enough. She came out of the mall with two other people who where carrying her bags for her because she was not about to carry them herself. They got to her car and put her bags up and took the top of the car for her also. She proceeded to turn her music up and rev up the engine to draw more attention to her. Well it worked everybody in a two hundred-foot radius turned to look at her. Maybe I am wrong is saying this, and yes I use sarcasm, I wish there were more people like her in the world today. Then maybe we would not try so hard to impress people.

My last person is biker. Now of course many people think these people as rude and thoughtless people. I admit that when I was younger I felt the same way. Seeing their huge guys with their tattoos and baldheads would scare the crap out of me. All that can be thought is man I hope I don't make them mad and get hurt. But of course I am now older and have a few tattoos myself so I no view these people as bad. I figure they are just expressing themselves in their own artistic way. To tell the truth I have worked with a couple of these people in the construction world and for the most part they seem to be really nice guys.

After observing these people I learned a few things about myself. I learned that I am quick to judge people in the way that the world wants me to judge them, but if I watch them for a while I think of the good in them. I also learned that I am a little more opened minded about the way I think of people and do my best to not make a snap judgment towards them.

Why was the Armenian Genocide Forgotten? GENOCIDE By definition genocide is the organized killing of a people for the express purpose of putting an end to their collective existence (Webster's dictionary). As a rule, the organizing agent is the nation, the victim population is a domestic minority, and the end result is the near total death of a society. The Armenian genocide generally conforms to this simple definition. FORGOTTEN The Armenian genocide is a hidden, almost lost part of world history, pretty much eclipsed by the more publicized genocide of the twentieth century, the Holocaust. The question is why. I could take a poll of this room and I am willing to bet that 5% of the students have ever even heard of the Armenian Genocide and those who have couldn't tell me more than a couple sentences about it. This is pretty scary, considering the statistics of the Armenian Genocide. The Ottoman Empire was ruled by the Turks who had conquered the land from across West Asia, North Africa to Southeast Europe. The Ottoman government was based in Istanbul and was headed by a sultan who was given absolute power. The Turks were Islamic and were a harsh disciplinary civilization. The Armenians, a Christian minority, lived as second class citizens subject to legal restrictions (Graber 11). These restrictions denied them normal safeguards. Neither their lives nor their properties were guaranteed security. As non-Muslims they were also obligated to pay discriminatory taxes and denied participation in government. In its prime of the sixteenth century the Ottoman Empire was a powerful state. Its minority populations really benefited with the growth of its economy, but by the nineteenth century, the empire was in serious decline (Graber 11). It had been reduced in size and by 114 had lost virtually all its lands in Europe and Africa. This decline created enormous internal political and economic pressures which contributed to the increasing tensions among the races (similar to Germany's way of blaming the Jews for their economic decline). Armenian aspirations for representation and participation in government worried the Muslim Turks who had never shared power in their country with any minority. Demands by Armenian political organizations for administrative reforms in the Armenian-inhabited provinces and better police protection only invited further repression. During the reign of the sultan Abdul Hamid, a series of massacres throughout the empire meant to dampen Armenian expectations by frightening them, cost up to three hundred thousand lives by some estimates and resulted in enormous material losses on a majority of Armenians. In response to the crisis in the Ottoman Empire, a new political group called the Young Turks seized power by revolution in 108. From the Young Turks, the Committee of Union and Progress (CUP) emerged at the head of the government in a coup staged in 11. It was led by a triumvirate Enver, Minister of War, Talaat, Minister of the Interior, and Jemal, Minister of the Marine (Hovanissian 15). The CUP spewed ultra-nationalistic culture which promoted the establishment of an exclusively Turkish state. It also promoted thoughts of conquering other regions inhabited by Turkic peoples, almost like our Manifest Destiny. When World War I broke out in August 114, the Ottoman Empire formed part of the Triple Alliance with the other Central Powers, Germany and Austria-Hungary, and it declared war on Russia and its Western allies, Great Britain and France. The Ottoman armies initially suffered a string of defeats. Whether retreating or advancing, the Ottoman army used the occasion of war to wage a scam campaign of massacre against the civilian Armenian population in the regions in which warfare was rampant. These measures were part of the genocidal program secretly adopted by the CUP and implemented under the cover of war. They coincided with the CUPs larger program to eradicate the Armenians from Turkey and neighboring countries. Through the spring and summer of 115, in all areas outside the war zones, the Armenian population was ordered deported from their homes. Convoys consisting of tens of thousands including men, women, and children were driven hundreds of miles toward the Syrian Desert. In April of the young Turks convinced leaders of the Armenian population to meet to discuss the new orders for all Armenians to march. This meeting attracted political leaders, church leaders and other intellects of the community (Graber 10). Sadly but planned by the Turks, the leaders were all killed and the population was left leaderless. Leaderless, the Armenians knew that they were in trouble but had no one to turn to. With no other choice, the towns and villages were forced to listen to the Turks. The Turks followed a textbook strategy of annihilation; destroy the leaders, disarm the populace, and use the big lie. For a number of reasons they did not know what was planned for them and went along with 'their' government's plan to relocate them for their own good. First the Armenians were asked to turn in their hunting weapons for the war effort. Communities were often given quotas and would have to buy additional weapons from the Turks to meet their quota. Later, the government would claim these weapons were proof of the Armenian plans to rebel. The able- bodied men were 'drafted' to help in the wartime effort. These men were either immediately killed or worked to death. Now the villages and towns, with only women, children and elderly left, were systematically emptied. The remaining residents would be told to gather only what they could carry for a temporary relocation. The Armenians, again, obediently followed instructions and were 'escorted' by Turkish gendarmes in death marches. The death marches would lead across Anatolia and the purpose became clear as soon as the Armenians hit the trail. Along the way the Armenians were being raped, starved, dehydrated, murdered and kidnapped. The Turkish gendarmes either led these atrocities or turned a cold shoulder. Their eventual destination for resettlement was supposedly the Syrian Desert. Those who miraculously survived the march to the bleak desert were either killed upon arrival or somehow found a way to survive until escape was found. Usually those few that survived received assistance from friendly Turks. When I started to develop an interest in this topic I was discussing it with a teacher from my high school who, in all honesty, thought that I would have trouble accessing information on such a limited issue. At first, I was startled by their comment and asked them to tell me all they knew about the Armenian genocide. This person wrapped up the one-minute discussion by suggesting that I choose a different topic. As I began to research, though, I realized that they were way off, and that all that I had to do was dig a little deeper. I scratched the surface of a major issue that is still the hot topic of many heated debates to this day. Only adding to my interest, I discovered that several of the textbooks of my girlfriend's textbooks used in her history classes do not make any significant mention or reference to the horrible massacre. In fact, if it weren't for some relatives that are active in the Armenian community of my home town I would have never heard of it either. Now, more than ever, awareness and respect for all those that died and for those that helped the survivors escape can be expressed on April 4 remembering the initial day that the political and intellectual Armenian leaders were murdered. There is no doubt that the Turkish authorities made a deliberate decision to exterminate the Armenians, that they sent this decision to involved officials, political, administrative, and military. Those who did not comply were removed from their duty. When all was said and done, approximately 1.5 million out of a total of .5 million Armenians were killed. This would be like someone killing nearly 60% of all Americans living today. That would put a significant dent in our population. This incomprehensible number and the fact that such an act could have been carried out by the institution that was implemented to protect and to guide them is pretty profound. What is most appalling is the idea that anyone could justify such an act. Throughout my research I came to the frightening assumption that somehow there are Turkish historians who maintain that the Young Turkish government is innocent of any charges of genocidal actions. For anyone to believe that such organized mass murders of the sort that went on in the Ottoman Empire could be executed by any such institution other than the government itself is totally unfounded and irrational. The only time that I have ever heard Turkish official admitting to the possible occurrence of an Armenian genocide was when one man stated something along the lines of ?We should have killed all the Armenians when we had the chance. 'Hitler himself felt confident enough in the world's selective memory to be quoted at a meeting of his SS units (his personal murderous secret police). At this meeting he ordered his men 'to kill without pity, men, women, and children for who,' he asked, 'remembers now the massacres of the Armenians' (Vahatai 8).

Intro

Diabetes is a disease in which the body does not produce or can't properly use insulin. Insulin is a hormone needed to convert sugar, starches and other food into energy. Diabetes is diagnosed on the basis of too- high levels of glucose in the blood. If you have diabetes, your blood glucose levels rise because of the food you eat. Food has little effect on blood glucose in people without diabetes.

The glucose tolerance test GTT is helpful in identifying diabetes and other diseases of the liver and disorders of carbohydrate metabolism.

The level of glucose in the blood is very important as it is utilised by all tissues, especially the brain, which at a resting state uses approximately 65% of all available glucose. In normal individuals blood glucose levels are usually found inside a range of .5-5.5mmol/L.

Do my essay on Diabetes CHEAP !

Glucose concentrations are tightly controlled by various mechanisms; depending on whether the body is fasting or is in the immediate post-absorptive state. In the immediate post-absorptive state, most of the glucose is supplied by glycogenolysis, and as fasting progresses, gluconeogenesis becomes increasingly important. When the body is in a fasting state, the rate of appearance and disappearance of glucose in the blood is approximately .5-.0mg/kg/min; a rate at which all glucose would disappear from the blood within 100 minutes, were it not continuously replaced. (B.Tuch et.al 000)

The biochemical hallmark of diabetes mellitis is chronic hyperglycaemia which results from an absolute or relative deficiency of insulin. (A.J Krentz 000)

There are two main types of diabetes. Type 1 diabetics make little or no insulin, they are said to be inulin deficient, and Type diabetics make normal or even elevated amounts of insulin but their bodies don't respond to the insulin properly, they are said to be insulin resistant. Instead of going into their cells to be used as energy, the unused glucose builds up in their blood and passes through the kidneys and gets excreted in the urine if the glucose level becomes too high.

Normally, insulin, which is synthesised and excreted by ß-cells of the pancreatic inslets in response to glucose and other secretagogues such as amio acids, allows glucose to enter the cells via specific glucose transporters and be used as fuel. Insulin is the principal anabolic hormone of the body exerting many actions on intermediary metabolism, ion transport and gene expression. (B Tuch, et.al 000)

The major action of insulin is to stimulate translocation of facilitative glucose transporters to the cell membrane. So far six different glucose transporters have been identified. They all share sequence homology, suggesting a common ancestral gene. Each has a specific tissue distribution, and there are thought to be 1 transmembrane domains that form a pore through which glucose is transported. (P.J.Watkins et.al 16)

Gypsy Moth

Hello, I am a female gypsy moth. I live in the cooler places. I am more common than a butterfly. I know that because when I was a little baby which everyone here calls it "larva stage", my parents who I was real proud of, taught me everything as they could about our lifecycle.

It all began when my parents mate and hatched thousands of eggs in the spring. I was attached to a leaf where I can be safe and have enough food to eat. My brothers and sisters were attached on trees, rocks, houses, and just about any other convenient objects. When I hatched, I saw my mommy with beautiful wings and she was white and I saw my daddy with a brown colored body, front of me smiling happily. Order Custom Gypsy Moth paper

I was then a caterpillar which was another stage called larva. I could move and eat. I climbed into tree canopies and began feeding. I ate leaves of oaks, hawthorns, and crabapples. Then after or three days my family got tired of that tree, we needed to do some moving! So my parents were flying into another tree while I had to produce a silken thread, which could carry me in the wind, like a balloon. My family's feeding continued from winter and throughout the rest of the spring. As I grew, I consumed between 5 to 5 leaves. I asked my mommy when my feeding would be done so I could become a pupa, she said, " you will be becoming one in the month of June." When the month finally came, I was so excited.

I was done feeding myself and I enter the pupil stage from which adult moths emerge in 10 to 14 days. When I became an adult, I had beautiful wings and the color of my body was white and pretty. I was all alone and independent. My parents were dead because a predator ate them, a lizard, a spider, bat that I should be, caution from them. I had no clue where did my brothers and sisters go? But I didn't cared much about them because I know they must be living the same life what I am living right now.

One day I was flying during the day looking for a place to rest, suddenly, I bumped into a beautiful colored female butterfly. I didn't know her that much. The only thing I knew was that she was a butterfly who is very friendly and looks almost just like me. I got to know her more (her life story) and she got to know mine. One thing was a big problem between us, which was that I could only meet her for a short time because I am more awake and active during the night while she is during the day.

On night, I used my ears to detect bats over a distance of 0 meters. Then a bat was detected me reacted differently, there was another one who changed its flight direction, which was coming to attack me, closed its wings and dropped itself to the ground. I was all happy and so were everyone else who was hidden behind trees or leaves because I confused the bats with my sound.

When it was time, I found a suitable mate from my scent " perfume" which male adults can be attracted and find the right female which is called a pheromone. The male I found was very loving. Then one night, I produced thousands of eggs during mid- July. They finally hatched on the following spring. I was very proud but one day I left my kids, which they were all adult by then to live somewhere else. Unfortunately, my husband and I were attacked by a spider and were eaten till death.

Now I am in heaven smiling upon my beautiful world. I hope u liked my story was interesting to you.

Throughout the years from 1500 to the early twentieth century the world saw many examples of European expansion. Many European countries shared the same motives for expansion while others were interested in it for different reasons. The main motive for expansion shared by most European countries was economic prosperity.

Great Britain, the Netherlands and Spain were the main leaders in the expansion of European trade. Each country was able to establish itself as a power in the world trade market for different reasons. Spain's main motive for expansion initially was to increase its influence throughout the world, which they inherently succeeded in by their conquests in the Americas. They came to the Americas for both economic and "religious" reasons but mainly for the large amounts of natural resources and the large amounts of silver and gold. When the Spanish established themselves as the leaders of the gold and silver trade, their influence in trade increased.

Great Britain and the Netherlands were more interested in expanding their trade opportunities as well as the goods they traded with. One of the main goods that Great Britain and the Netherlands were interested in was spices. During the 1700's the British began to set up colonies in India and other parts of Asia and the Netherlands colonized many islands in the West Indies. These areas were hot spots for the spice trade in addition to other goods like silk and herbal teas which were much desired by many Europeans.

Once these countries established themselves economically, they developed patterns of trade that were mutually beneficial. For example the Spanish used the gold and silver they got from South America and traded it for manufactured goods from well established industrial countries like Great Britain, the Netherlands and France. This pattern benefited the Spanish in that they were able to easily receive manufactured goods without having to compete in the industrial race that swept across Europe during the 1800's and it benefited the British, Dutch and French in that they were able to receive large amounts of gold and silver in exchange for manufactured goods that were relatively inexpensive to produce; hence, the mutually beneficial trade patterns that enabled European powers like Great Britain, the Netherlands and Spain to emerge as leaders of world trade and advance themselves economically.

Another motive for expansion for countries like Spain, Portugal and France was to spread Catholicism. Portugal was one of the first countries to spread Catholicism. In the 1400's, under the leadership of Prince Henry the Navigator, Portugese explorers began to look for a new Christian kingdom that could be an ally against the Muslims. These Portugese explorers made their way south along the west coast of Africa; but, rather than succeeding in expanding Catholicism they discovered new trade opportunities. The slave trade is one example of this.

Through the establishment of colonies, countries like Spain and France were able to succeed, to a degree, in the expansion of Catholicism. However, this motive was clouded in many colonies by the obsession for economic advancement by the colonial powers.

During the 1700's and 1800's many European countries began to setup colonies in Africa, Asia, the Americas as well as the West Indies. This shifted the motive for European expansion to be virtually completely based on economic advancement. With the establishment of Europe as the source of economic and military power, many Europeans began to feel that they were superior to other people throughout the world. This belief was reflected through literature like "The White Man's Burden" among other writings. As a result, many countries tried to justify colonialism by saying that they were attempting to civilize or "Europeanize" the natives in their colonial countries. However, most colonial governments were extremely oppressive in issues of human rights as well as politically. In many of the colonies, there were revolts against the government. Some were peaceful and others involved violence.

At the beginning of the sixteenth century, European expansion was supported by many different motives like economic prosperity, expansion of trade and the spread Christianity. However, by the end of the nineteenth century the sole motive was economic prosperity. This became the focus of virtually all European countries at the end of the eighteenth and throughout the nineteenth centuries with the industrial revolution.

There was a tremendous movement in the 1800's in Europe that revolved around the manufacturing and exporting of goods from textiles to clothes made in large factories by usually underpaid, overworked laborers. As a result of the industrial revolution, European countries sought to expand their empires and colonize areas of Africa, Asia and the Americas that were rich in natural resources and raw materials. As a result this would boost their profits and give them much easier and cheaper access to the materials they needed to manufacture goods.
